Sometimes I just sit and think, …and sometimes I just sit

Writing my first blog article is something I have been thinking about these last few days, as I was sipping cold and refreshing beers in the garden, sitting (AND thinking) in the warm sun, looking as energetic as a melted piece of cheese (gone bad).

What should my first post be about?

Should I just dive in, head first, and describe some of my painful but yet enjoyable experiences with web design (something along the lines of “10 reasons to bash your customers’ heads in”, “20 amazing photoshop tutorials combining red text and… green text”), or should I just take it easy and use this great and unique moment to tell you who I am, but more importantly what I am generally doing here. Option 2 quickly emerged (after keg number 3) as the most polite option.

Shoogle Designs

I can only encourage you to check my website to understand who I am and what I offer as services, but as it’s in French (hee hon), and since you are busy people, and may not have the courage to attempt translate my whole website, here’s a quick summary of it, in so few words I wonder why I bothered creating so many pages. I’m a passionate irn-bru and Simpsons-addicted web designer who helps self-employed and start-ups get their web projects off the ground. Based in France, in the Paris area, I usually concentrate on website creations for local artisans but I’m equally comfortable and well accustomed to working with people from different backgrounds/countries, having spent more than a decade abroad.

… Hence the name Shoogle designs (just a side comment) which takes its roots in my beloved Scotland, which I still consider like one of my ‘homes’, having spent some of the best moments of my young (not) but yet fruitful life.

Why Blogging?

Anyway back to the blogging and this attempt of a first post. I have never had the ambition to become a famous and internationally-known blogger, but I must admit that having readers browsing through my articles is something that has become naturally appealing. It should keep me on my toes and leverage my motivation to work, write and share, and it definitely will help me improve my design and writing skills, feedback lines such as ‘I would have done this differently’, ‘you are talking absolute bollox here you to$$er’ or ‘love what you’re doing’ bound to be useful, funny or simply ego-boosting.

Why in English?

Having decided to throw my first lines on this blog, a choice of language had to be made. Natural decision would have been to stick to French, and be consistent with the rest of my site, my location, my origins and my usual customers, but sharing my mood/coding attempts/ideas with larger masses along with a real pleasure of writing in Shakespeare’s language became too strong to ignore the possibilities and advantages of an English-based blog.

Ready, steady….Start

That’s us settled. I kind of introduced myself, told you in a few words what, who, why and how. Let’s get cracking. I can’t wait to start posting articles, and read your feedback and comments. One piece of advice though for all of you’s who would be tempted to leave sarcastic comments: Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience… and as I previously mentioned it, I’m not getting any younger.
